From The Ground Up – Monolith

‘’From the ground up – Monolith’’ is a candelabra forged from the language of construction and industry, this object reimagines the raw materials of our built world as a quiet tribute to the nature we’ve displaced. Its form echoes foundations, pipelines, and engineered joints—structures we pass daily without noticing—yet its gestures are soft, organic, and deliberately slow.
By mimicking the rhythms of growth and erosion, it brings a hint of the outdoors into environments where nature is often reduced to a distant memory.
This piece stands as a reminder that even within rigid urban systems, there is room for renewal. It invites touch, reflection, and a moment of pause, asking us to reconsider what “natural” can mean in spaces shaped by human hands.
The process for producing the lamp shades blends natural materials and synthetic materials to make a composite with rough organic textures and colours but allows light to pass through when activated. We use white sand sourced locally in Lithuania to form our base layers and waste metal dusts from foundries and our own workshop to create a layer that we can patina. This layering process allows us to have a natural distribution of depth and colour and produce one-of-a-kind lamp shades.
