‘’From The Ground Up – Fallen’’ is a conceptual consol table with integrated lighting. Forged from the language of construction and industry, this object draws parallels with lumber that has been cut, still raw, waiting to be derigged for industrial use.

‘’Fallen’’ pushes the concept forward in terms of how we perceive the branch formations and object composition, this helps inform us how we can implement our design language into different applications. We use white sand sourced locally in Lithuania to form our base layers as before and waste metal dusts from the cutting of the base pipe to create a layer that we can treat into an iron oxide patina. The process colours the lampshades with rich browns and oranges, reminiscent of leaves beginning to degrade after the core of the tree is cut.

After making ‘’Monolith’’ which represents a tree, standing straight with its green foliage I was looking for other contexts to apply the same design language too and other avenues to explore. I often walk in the forests near my home to get a feel for the environment where I draw forms and compositions for this collection from. When deciding what idea to pursue first I learned that my mum had had a bad fall while on a trip in the north of Scotland, this resulted in her needing a shoulder replacement. As I was contemplating transforming the natural into the industrial my mum was having the industrial implanted to repair the natural, ‘’Fallen’’ is a homage to her accident and subsequent recovery.
